Avignon, France

 I toured the fantastic medieval city Avignon on my own today, covered Palais des Papes, and other attractions across the Rhone River, such as Fort Saint-André (an UNESCO site). “Avignon is famous as it is the city to which the Popes fled when leaving the corruption of Rome in the 14th century. The palace they built, 'Le Palais des Papes,' or the palace of popes, is the world's largest Gothic edifice. “ I walked around the park Jardin des Doms twice to catch the views on different lightings. Since it is getting into low tourist season and no more free walking tours. Worst of all, the city even stoped the bus to a water spring town  Fontaine-de-Vaucluse (which reminds me a similar town in New Zealand. As to two little towns Gordes and Roussillon, the expensive tour will happen 2 days later, and the local connecting bus rides take too long (my interests are not high enough to justify the efforts). A sunny day in Cambridge

 I took train to Cambridge a university city and enjoyed a sunny pleasant day with a panorama view from the tower of St. Mary Church, toured the St. Christian College, had a Germany hot dog in the Market Square, took a walking tour, and walked up the Castle Hill.  It has a lot of green open spaces and cattle grazing only 500 yards from the market square. According to the tour guide, The University of Cambridge was founded in the 13th century by scholars leaving Oxford after a dispute with townsfolk. I photoed I front of the colleges associated with Sir Isaac Newton and Steven Hawking.  Cambridge academics have won more Nobel Prizes than those of any other university in the world. Bordeaux, France

 My 6.5 hr BlaBlaCar ride into Bordeaux was long but fun conversation with my driver who wants to work in USA. I made a 25€ mistake by reserving the hostel on the same day. Oh, well this new and trendy hostel is right next to Renaissance Hotel on the rich/left side of La Garnonne River so cost me 44€ a night. I will move to the almost as trendy hostel of 19€ (yet not as wealthy neighborhood) tomorrow.  The 1st thing after dropping my bag was to sign up a wine testing tour via the tourist office. These major wineries do not take individuals walking in as in Porto, Portugal. I also asked info to get to a nearby town for the day after tomorrow.  Bordeaux is often referred to as "Little Paris". As a seasoned traveler, I checked out almost all sites, such as Place de la Bourse and the Water Mirror, Bordeaux Cathedral (St Andrew Cathedral), Quinconces Square, Victory Arch, Girondins memorial, etc., on both banks of the river, and I will sleep in tomorrow morning to take things ...
