Toured Alfama and Belem areas of Lisbon

“Life is like a box of chocolates, and you will never know what you are going to get.” I planned to take an Alfama walking Tour with two hostelmates then the tour was cancelled due to the unexpected death of the tour guides family member. I then ventured out on my own to tour famous sites such as Sé de Lisboa, Castelo de São Jorge, etc., and enjoyed the area, regardless that some spots were closed on Monday.

As soon as I decided to venture out to the Belem area, I immediately went to the city center to get a 30-day SIM card and a Liston transport charge card to make sure I can get out and back. I was lucky to ran into a family of three from UK at the tram station when waiting for number 15E. They kindly adopted me as the 4th member to tour Belem together.

We checked out the original/1st in the world custard bakery and tasted the wonderful custards there (much thinner and more crispy skin), then toured the Padrão dos Descobrimento and the Torre de Belém. Then they kindly invited me to a lavish happy hours at the Sheraton in the new town (5 courses tapas plus three drinks).

I had great time with companions and hospitality of the family and then walked back to my hostel. Although they encouraged me to take tram back, I seized the light and jagged back via several sightseeing spots on the path back to my hostel. What a day with unexpected ventures!
