Fatima, Portugal

I was in a panic mode when walking in the dark in the early morning and could not decide which bus stop to walk to in Tomar for the bus to Fatima. I stopped vehicles to ask for directions until the third car which was a taxi yet drove free me to the stop really close by.

My day tour in Fatima was in a pilgrim style, i.e., carrying all my belongings (~ 7 kg) to walk to sites in Fatima, a worldwide famous pilgrimage site (Marian shrine). It reminds me of the Vatican City yet more down to earth and less touristy.

I attended early morning mass at the Chapel of the Apparitions for 10 minutes, then toured the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary and ate my takeaway hostel breakfast at the back yard.

I then walked across the town to the Way of the Cross with the Hungarian Calvary and the place of apparitions of the Angel of Peace and the Virgin Mary (both in Valinhos), as well as the family houses of the three little shepherds seers of Our Lady (in Aljustrel village), before I bused to Coimbra around noon time.
