Aix-en-Provence, France
I used free BlaBlaCar carpool back in 2017 in Serbia when there was no reasonable public transport between two cities. I used it again today between Nice and Aix-en-Provence due to lower cost (11€) and more flexible arrangement. I was dropped off 2.4 miles out of city center of Aix-en-Provence then walked in town and toured around for the Sculpture of Cézanne, Church of the Order of Malta, Ruins of Aquae Sextiae, Café des Deux Garçons, Cathedral of San Salvador, Fountain of the Four Dolphins, Memorial to the Martyrs of the Resistance, etc.
It was home to Paul Cézanne 塞尚. “As in all Provençal towns, the city centre consists of narrow streets, lined with interesting buildings from 17th century hotels to paved plazas.”
My bags did feel heavy after 4-hr walking around town, so I rested in the tourist office then caught a bus (18€) to Avignon whose accommodation prices are more reasonable.
Btw, I tried 3 pharmacies in Nice yet finally got my French Health pass in Aix-en-Provence. Now I can visit any public areas without restrictions. So far I am not into France because people smoke all over the places 🥵
